Marie V. Watson, also known as "Ree", is one of seven children and was born on November 25, 1935 to the late Thomas and Minnie Grant of Chester Pennsylvania, and departed this life on March 2, 2010.
On May 10, 1958 Marie was married to Norman H. Watson, her high school sweetheart. A graduate of Chester High School and a forty-year resident of Chester, PA she was a devoted member of Bethany Baptist Church. She was a member of Voices of Bethany Choir and a part of the Trustee Wives. Marie was a former hairdresser, homemaker, mother and grandmother. She had a deep love of homes and had a knack for interior decorating and cooking. Her specialty was sweet potato pie. Marie loved her grandchildren. She loved having them in her presence and spoiling them as often as possible. If you ever wanted to get her talking, just get her on the phone and ask about her grandchildren or her favorite soap operas.
Marie and Norman had true courage. After marriage they were the first blacks to move onto Butler Street in Chester, PA. Then in November 1975, Marie and Norman moved to Mickleton, NJ, in an effort to provide a better life for their children. Moving their family to neighborhoods unfamiliar to them and void of African Americans showed how much love they had for their children's future. She raised five children and resided in New Jersey until her departure.
Affectionately known as "Missy" by her children, she leaves to cherish her memory: Husband of almost 52 years, Norman; children, Norman L. Watson, Darryl L. Watson Sr. (Sherri Watson), Tracy K. Watson, Nichelle M. Watson (predeceased), Judith L. Watson-Bollar (Steven Bollar). Grandchildren: Darryl L. Watson Jr. Sherra D. Watson, Darrid J. Watson, Hajuania L. Bollar, Aidan A. Bollar, Aubrey N. Bollar. Brothers: Raleigh Grant, Thomas Grant (predeceased), James Grant (predeceased), Richard Grant (predeceased), Robert Grant (predeceased). Sister: Lillian Edwards. Sister-in-Laws: Gladys Short, Louise Lewis, Helen Watson. Brother-in-Laws: Linza Lewis, Albert Watson (predeceased), Thomas Short (predeceased), Raleigh Edwards (predeceased). Additionally, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
