Maurice W. LaFate was born on January 4, 1935 in Wilmington Delaware to the late Thomas and Lillian L. LaFate. He departed this life on January 20, 2010 in Chester, PA. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force, retiring after 6 years of active duty and 39 years in the Air Force Reserves.
Maurice served as a Medical Technician on the 72nd Aeromedical Squadron, which was based at Dover AFB, Delaware and subsequently at McGuire AFB, New Jersey. After his active duty commitment, Maurice went to work for the Chrylser Corporation as a supervisor, retiring after 30 years of outstanding service.
In 1976 he met the lovely Dietra T. Taylor, with whom he later united in holy matrimony.
Maurice was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of John A. Watts Lodge #224, I.B.P.O.E. OF W. (Elks) and a member of the Past Exalted Rulers Council #7, Eastern District of PA. He was also a member of Brandywine Post #12, American Legion of Wilmington, DE. In addition, he was a member and Past Master of Union Lodge #21, F.&A.M. (Prince Hall); Honorary Past Most Worshipful Grand Master, State of Delaware; Corinthian Consistory #5, A.A.S.R.; Grand Inspector General, 33rd Degree, United Supreme Council, A.A.S.R; Past Thrice Illustrious Master of John H. Hubert Council #2, Royal and Select Masters; member and Honorary Past Potentate of Suakim Temple #60 A.E.A.O.N.M.S. where he served as Director of Publicity and Promotions, Captain of the Marching Patrol and a Temple Trustee; Past Patron of Martha Chapter #2, O.E.S., member of Palestine Chapter #3, H.R.A.M., Past Grand High Priest H.R.A.M., Past Most Worthy Grand Joshua, Queen of Sheba Grand Court, Heroines of Jericho.
Mr. LaFate is survived by his wife, Dietra LaFate of Chester, PA; 1 daughter, Lillian Palmer (Paul) of Albuquerque, NM; 7 sons, Maurice LaFate, Jr. (Elva) of Wilmington, DE, Pierre LaFate of Newark, DE, Jacques LaFate of Wilmington, DE, Couve LaFate Miami, FL, Francois LaFate (Bernice) New Castle, DE, Andre Coursey, Dover, DE, Ronald Taylor, Jr. (Nieve), Parkside, PA; 1 brother, Robert LaFate (Eunice) of Wilmington, a 21 Grandchildren and 20 Great grandchildren; Herman Larkin (Teresa) of Wilmington, a cousin who was raised with him. Predeceased by a by a son Napolean and a brother Bernard LaFate.
