GRACIE MAE DEES, departed this life on January 13, 2010 at Fair Acres Geriatric Center. She was born January 17, 1928 to the late Joe and Emma Brown.
Gracie was raised in Mobile, Alabama, where she was educated in the public schools to grade 12. She later moved to New York City in 1958. Aunt Gracie, as she was affectionately known by everyone, was a master chef for various families in the New York area, until reuniting with her family in the city of Chester in 1995.
Aunt Gracie would start her day as early as 6:00 in the morning sitting on the porch watching the morning traffic, enjoying her cup of coffee, and greeting neighbors on their way to work. If she was not on the porch everyone would ask, "where is aunt Grace?" Aunt Gracie was great company and one could always count on her for a listening ear. All the nieces and nephews would a get kick out of how she answered the phone in only a way she could with her southern accent.
Gracie leaves to cherish her memory one brother Roosevelt Brown, a special niece that cared for her Vernice Stewart, and host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one sister Susie Mae Green and, three brothers Cleveland, Earl, and Otis Brown.
