Lessie L. Duffy Collins, a homemaker, was born in Griffin, Georgia on October 9, 1915. During her childhood, Lessie's family migrated north to Chester, Pennsylvania, in search of a better life. Upon settling in Chester, Lessie attended the public school system.
As a young woman, she met and later married John Henry Collins. They were blessed to enjoy many, many years together until his death on April 21, 1966. Grief and loss was often a familiar part of life's journey for Lessie.
After the death of her husband, she lost her only child, Annie Lois Beamon, who passed away on December 10, 1994. Sadness, however, did not overwhelm her. Lessie's strong faith and trust in God allowed her to persevere. In the end, she was blessed to see four generations brought into this world.
Lessie was a caring and compassionate grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. All of the children affectionately called her "Gramps," and they were her pride and joy. Most of Lessie's life revolved around taking care of home. She was always present with a hug and encouragement. The one joy which she took for herself was to listen to music. She especially loved Gospel music.
After a long and fruitful life, Lessie's earthly purpose came to a close on Friday, April 10, 2009. She peacefully entered into eternal rest at Crozer Chester Medical Center with her family by her side. Our beloved Lessie leaves to mourn her loss but, rejoice in her glory one granddaughter, four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Sorrowfully submitted, The Family
