Johnnie Mae Turner was born in Jacksonville, GA to the late John Dixon and Deotha C. Dixon on January 23, 1929. She went home to be with the Lord on December 16, 2008.
She loved to spend time reading, playing the organ, listening to music and pampering herself.
At a very young age Johnnie Mae left Chester and moved to West Chester, PA, and later to Camden, NJ. She worked for Sherman Williams Paint Factory for many years. When she returned to Chester she worked for the former Bell Telephone Company, for over 20 years and retired from Verizon. She loved her family and godchildren and devoted her time to them after retirement.
She was a former member of Temple Baptist Church where she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She later attended St. Luke CC Church where she stayed until her health failed.
Johnnie was a very honest person who always told you exactly what was on her mind. She was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Karen D. Smith, her care giver, and Elizabeth "Cookie" Stanley, grandchildren Erika Grimes, Mike E. Tolbert, Melissa D. Tolbert, Lisa M. Smith, Adreya J. Platt and Justin E. Platt 11 great grandchildren; five special cousins, Myrtle Lee Cottman, Tommy Wyman, Marlena Jackson, Susie Johnson and Sallie Harris, lifetime friends Mabel Johnson, Arnolla Bishop and Diane Outland, one god-daughter Denise Stone.
Sadly submitted,
The Family
