Edward West was born on November 28, 1931 in Pungateague, Virginia. He was the son of the late Roy West and Lena Thomas. Edward received his education in the Virginia public school system.
While in Virginia he learned masonry skills and brought his trade to Chester, Pennsylvania in the 1960's. He was a member of Local 413 for over 30 years until his retirement. Even after retiring, he continued to do various masonry jobs throughout Delaware County. There are many local markers displaying his workmanship.

Edward, affectionately known as Junior, E.D., June-baby, and West, loved gospel music and particularly enjoyed listening to quartets. He was an avid gardener who could take a piece of barren land and produce an abundance of fruits and vegetables for a stand. West was also fascinated by motor vehicles. He would drive anything with wheels from the numerous cars he owned to a tractor. Edward took great pride in his personal appearance. He was a smart dresser and would travel all around to find the best deal possible.

Edward West was a man of many talents. He excelled as a cook and baker, and was known for his fabulous sweet potato pies. He possessed a very warm an caring personality and delighted in entertaining family and friends, especially at his cookouts which were famous throughout the area. To relax he enjoyed playing cards and spent many hours playing with his friends. While he enjoyed the card games, he enjoyed more the camaraderie of his friends. In fact, Junior was happiest when he was surrounded by family and friends. He was a special individual who touched the lives of all those he met.

Edward entered into eternal rest on November 18, 2008 after a long illness at the age of 76. In adition to his parents, he was predeceased by his life companion Loretta White in 2001; a brother Charles Satchel, and a son, Edward Morris.

Edward leaves to cherish fond memories: six sons, Edward West, Jr. of Exmore, VA, Gregory Morris, Tyrone Morris, Jeffrey Morris and David White of Chester, PA, Eddie Morris of Providence, RI, two stepsons, Nemont Morris of Providence, RI, and Lonnie Morris of California; twelve daughters, Diane Morris, Ruth Jones and Ida Mae Morris all of Chester, PA, Edith Allen of Newark, NJ, Ann West of Dover, DE, Pricilla Cyler, Mary Morris and Ethel Morris all of Providence, RI, Regina Butcher of New Castle, Delaware, Sharon White, Maia White and Kim White all of Chester; one sister Alice Kellam of North Hampton County Virginia; special son-in-law, Alen Stansbury; a host of nieces and nephews; a special niece Jeannie Atkins who helped to care for him, cousins, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
